On Tuesday, March 4, authorities confirmed that Alice Mackey, 42, had been formally charged after her young daughter was found unresponsive in a nearby pond. The incident occurred on September 10, 2023, when Annabel was reported missing from her home shortly after 5 p.m. local time, according to a news release issued by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
Emergency services launched an urgent search, and Annabel was discovered a short time later at Kingsley Pond, approximately 350 yards from her home. She was found unresponsive and transported to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, despite medical efforts, Annabel passed away the following afternoon on September 11.
Following an extensive investigation led by detectives from the Major Crime Team, Alice Mackey was arrested and subsequently charged with her daughter’s murder. Authorities confirmed that Mackey remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Wednesday, March 5.
